This would also give you a better run look to help sell the Play-Action.Coach Hooverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12861382381553147719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-10523821888678417252013-02-06T07:02:43.070-08:002013-02-06T07:02:43.070-08:00Thanks coach. Danger is that the 4-4 backside OLB can chase down unblocked if we take too long or timing is off.Tribunenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-16822147187120245362013-02-06T05:06:37.448-08:002013-02-06T05:06:37.448-08:00Tribune, I would have #1 run the Curl, #2 run the ...Tribune, I would have #1 run the Curl, #2 run the Flat, and the RB run a Check-Down as my triangle.Coach Hooverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12861382381553147719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-1499640724701157382013-02-06T04:54:51.313-08:002013-02-06T04:54:51.313-08:00Coach, we see a lot of 4-4 cover 1 and 3. Thinking play action as a zone team, how would you adjust routes if you align tight trips to field and play fake to that side (Y blocks EMLOS as for zone; H flat; Z curl)?
Thanks!Tribunenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-78133912753450964822013-01-16T08:04:50.719-08:002013-01-16T08:04:50.719-08:00No, I don't.No, I don't.Coach Hooverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12861382381553147719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-57643399571985816132012-07-31T11:39:04.273-07:002012-07-31T11:39:04.273-07:00Thank you for your feedback coach!Thank you for your feedback coach!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-13317099926466628952012-07-31T03:43:11.238-07:002012-07-31T03:43:11.238-07:00Yes, you can run Curl-Flat like that with just Y a...Yes, you can run Curl-Flat like that with just Y and Z. It is still effective vs the Cover 3 Curl-Flat player. I have run Curl-Flat with the Y and RB and had the Z outside WR run a Go route before with success. Curl-Flat is best run to the Field, so you need a Cover 2 beater to the Boundary, of which I would recommend Smash (Hitch-Corner).Coach Hooverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12861382381553147719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-3849925662901993362012-07-29T23:53:47.436-07:002012-07-29T23:53:47.436-07:00Coach, I have several questions regarding the Curl...Coach, I have several questions regarding the Curl-Flat concept. First question: What if I base out of 2X2 and my RB is heavily involved in pass protection? This would require the Y receiver to run the flat route, and the Z to run the curl route; can the curl flat still be effective this way? With that said, I do agree with your reasoning about the flat defender having to worry about the RB outflanking him if Y runs the curl. Second question: If I still want to have the RB run the flat route, and have Y run the curl, what would you have Z run? Third question: What do you think is best to have on the other side of Curl Flat out of 2X2? I am a big fan of having 2 coverage beaters built into each play; which cover 2 route combination do you think works well on the other side of Curl Flat?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-5627009248213238402010-09-19T15:45:22.786-07:002010-09-19T15:45:22.786-07:00Coach,

The wheel can slip past defenders after you hit the curl a bit.
With the playaction you really force your "Danger defender" to step up just a bit more before his drop.

The good thing with a tighter split is most corners will align with outside leverage vs. the tighter split, allowing the receiver to get more separation on the curl cut. We like to make a little shoulder dip to the outside around 7-8 yards to make the CB think fade too.Archiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13578386151158119020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-12159241837062720502010-09-19T10:12:52.082-07:002010-09-19T10:12:52.082-07:00Thanks, Archie. I remember Spurrier would run his Curls at 18 yards off of Play-Action when he was at Florida back in the day. Sprint-Out, too would be different, I'm sure you guys could run that with wider splits to make people defend the entire width of the field as you move the pocket.Coach Hooverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12861382381553147719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010549144704922204.post-62516727670232286332010-09-19T06:28:11.503-07:002010-09-19T06:28:11.503-07:00Very nice analysis there Coach Hoover.
